There are ‘box shifters’ who won’t offer advice and guidance, or perhaps don’t even help with warranty issues, but they may give you the best initial price

However, if your new piece of kit breaks down (even the top brands have issues), you need a reputable retailer with great customer service who will help you with things like a warranty claim. Perhaps they will loan you something to help you keep working, maybe they can fix it quickly in-house, or at least they will dispatch it to the manufacturer for repair or replacement quickly.

A good DJ Retailer speaks with hundreds of DJs from all types of event, venue and audience, so in addition to knowing the products well, they know what DJs like you have experienced with your chosen product. Your choice may be perfect for you, but your DJ Retailer may have a different option or two for you to consider, which may be more reliable, better quality or more suited to your budget

Those of us of more mature years will remember getting advice on new music releases from the guy at your local record shop. Experts in their field, they will help you select new artists to follow and invest in, to get audiences jumping. Because you had a relationship, they were also a good source for freebies and white labels

Building a relationship with a DJ Retailer gives you the chance to get impartial advice on brands and products. They know what you do and will build trust with you, so you keep coming back to them and you invest in your business. If there are freebies available, those with a relationship get them first. You get priority when a new item is released and there’s a queue. If you need to borrow or hire some kit for an event, you stand more chance if the DJ Retailer knows and trusts you.
